8 procrastination is the thief of time
посл."оттягивать да откладывать - только время воровать" (ср. мешканьем беды не избудешь)In large letters was the name of a firm... and below, in type smaller, but still of some magnitude, was the dogmatic statement: Procrastination is the Thief of Time. Then a question, startling because of its reasonableness: Why not order today? (W. S. Maugham, ‘Of Human Bondage’, ch. 86) — Большими буквами в газете было напечатано название хорошо знакомой Филиппу фирмы... ниже - помельче, но достаточно броско - непререкаемая истина: "Откладывая дело на завтра, крадешь у себя время". Еще ниже следовал вопрос, поражавший своей непреложностью: "Почему бы не заказать сегодня же?"
From General Peckem's office on the mainland came prolix bulletins each day headed by such cheery homilies as "Procrastination is the Thief of Time" and "Cleanliness is Next to Godliness". (J. Heller, ‘Catch-22’, ch. IX) — С Большой земли, из штаба генерала Пеккема, каждый день поступали многословные бюллетени под бодрыми, вдохновляющими заголовками: "Боритесь с волокитой - расхитительницей времени!" или "Боритесь за чистоту. Чистота - христианская добродетель".

19 WHEN
The question-word “at what time?” is unattested, though paraphrases are possible (e.g. *mana i lú yassë menuvas? “what’s the time that he will go?” for “when will he go?”) “When” introducing a statement of time appears as írë in Fíriel’s Song (írë Anarinya queluva, “when my sun faileth”, LR:72). Another example has yá (in a phrase translated “when winter comes”, VT49:23), but different meanings (“formerly, ago”) are ascribed to the word yá elsewhere, possibly leaving írë less ambiguous (though this word itself must be distinguished from írë “desire”). In phrases like “the day when we came”, yassë “in which” may be used. -

Come up and see me sometime... Cette formule fut utilisée pour la première fois par Mae West dans le film de 1933 She Done Him Wrong (dont le titre français est Lady Lou); la citation exacte était en fait Why don't you come up sometime, see me? ("Pourquoi est-ce que tu ne monterais pas un de ces jours, pour me voir?"). Il s'agit de l'archétype de l'invitation au badinage. Encore aujourd'hui on utilise cette formule en imitant l'air canaille de Mae West.
